Recitals & Events

Each year, I hold a winter and spring concert. These recitals are a high point of the year, celebrating students’ growth as musicians. Recitals are exciting events that challenge us as musicians to show everything we’ve learned in front of a supportive audience of family, friends, neighbors, and other students. And we usually record it, so no pressure at all!

The good news is that each recital is proof to the students themselves that they can be performers. I help them every step of the way to get ready for the recital, so they go onstage with confidence. While it’s normal for students to get a little nervous before the big show, the payoff is beyond words and the memories last a lifetime. Mark your calendars now for our winter and spring concerts!

Upcoming 2019-2020 Events

Summer Virtual Recital
To keep everyone safe, our summer virtual recital plans are going ahead! Please send me your video by Saturday, August 15th. In each video, the student should state their name, say the name of the piece, and bow (at the end of course!) Each student can do one or two pieces. Can’t wait to see your videos!

Past Events

Online event: Spirit Month
What’s the best way to fight boredom and cabin fever while having a little fun during our online lessons? Spirit Month!  In June, we wore pajamas, dressed up as our favorite characters, wore beachwear, and even had a crazy hair day! It’s all about finding new ways to connect with students during this challenging time!

2020 Spring Virtual Recital
Despite having to move our Spring Recital online due to COVID-19, it was a success! Check out the video of the Spring Recital here!

2020 Winter Concert
Our joint recital with Laura Collier held on February 9, 2020, was a great event! See more photos here!

May 2018 Recital

We still have CDs available of both performances of the May 2018 recital for $10 each. Profits go toward supplies for Kate Wisbey Music and to the Music Resource Center for helping us with our spring concert last year! Just email me if you would like to order a copy.

Our musical community

The music continues after our lesson ends, especially in Charlottesville, a music-friendly community where there are so many opportunities to experience and participate in music.

I like to keep my students inspired and growing as musicians, so I encourage them and help them prepare to perform in public if they are interested.

Every Monday at 9:00 pm, there is an open mic night at The Local, which has a full band that can accompany you if you provide a lead sheet when you go up. There are also open mic nights at the Jefferson School and the Front Porch. I include upcoming events in my newsletters. Go check them out or ask me for more information if you are interested!
